Mentor
Volunteer Program
Be one of Tahlequah’s Most
Valuable Players in our
Mentor Volunteer Program
OUR MISSION:
To empower at-risk youth in
our community to make
positive life choices that
enable them to maximize
their personal potential.
Research shows mentoring
successfully:
-
Increases the
self-esteem of young
people.
-
Increases student
academic success.
-
Increases positive
social interaction by
youth.
-
Reduces the risk that
young people will use
illegal drugs and
alcohol.
What is a mentor?
A mentor is someone who is
caring, listens well, and
wants to help young people
reach their full potential.
What does a mentor do?
A mentor spends time talking
and listening or focusing on
academics. A mentor takes
time to have fun like
playing a game, working a
puzzle, or sharing a hobby.
What is required?
We ask that mentors make a
commitment to meet with
their mentee one hour a week
for a minimum of one year.
How do I apply?
The mentor application form
is available at the bottom
of this web page. Return
the completed form by mail
to the Mentor Coordinator at
the address provided on the
form.
