Tahlequah Public Schools Gifted/Talented Education Program

R.I.S.E. Reaching Intellectual Success and Excellence

RISE  is the Intellectually Gifted portion of the G/T Program at TPS.  TPS uses the Oklahoma State Dept. of Education requirement for placement of:

Score 128 or 97% on the total of an intelligence test

Score 97% on the composite of an achievement test for two of three consecutive years

Potential Gifted

Scoring in the high 90s consistently on the achievement test composite or 97% on an area total, with teacher recommendation and team review

Intelligence test score of 126 on the total or 128 on the verbal or non-verbal with teacher recommendation and team review

Students placed as potential gifted will be served in the gifted program at that school site only.

Additional testing will be administered to determine eligibility at the next school site level.

Elementary Level

Identified gifted and potential gifted student are served through a pull-out enrichment program taught by a resource teacher.  The regular teacher is to differentiate the curriculum in the classroom for the gifted students as needed.

Students have a yearly enrichment field trip exclusively for RISE as well as several cultural events funded by the G/T program to include their classmates.

Secondary Level

Gifted students at the secondary level are served through accelerated, honors, and advanced placement classes.  RISE students have priority placement with additional places being filled with accelerated students with committee approval.  RISE students are also offered participation in a short-term, career-oriented mentorship experience with professionals in the community.
