and Excellence
RISE is the Intellectually Gifted portion of the G/T
Program at TPS. TPS uses the Oklahoma State Dept. of
Education requirement for placement of:
•
Score 128 or 97% on the total of an intelligence test
•
Score 97% on the composite of an achievement test for
two of three consecutive years
Potential Gifted
•
Scoring in the high 90s
consistently on the achievement test composite
or 97% on an area total, with teacher recommendation and
team review
•
Intelligence test score of 126 on the total or 128 on
the verbal or non-verbal with teacher recommendation and
team review
•
Students placed as potential gifted will be
served in the gifted program at that school site only.
•
Additional testing will be administered to determine
eligibility at the next school site level.
Elementary Level
•
Identified gifted and potential gifted student are
served through a pull-out enrichment program taught by a
resource teacher. The regular teacher is to
differentiate the curriculum in the classroom for the
gifted students as needed.
•
Students have a yearly enrichment field trip exclusively
for RISE as well as several cultural events funded by
the G/T program to include their classmates.
Secondary Level
•
Gifted students at the secondary level are served
through accelerated, honors, and advanced placement
classes. RISE students have priority placement with
additional places being filled with accelerated students
with committee approval. RISE students are also offered
participation in a short-term, career-oriented
mentorship experience with professionals in the
community.
Secondary Advanced Courses
•
Accelerated 7th and 8th grade English, Pre AP English I
& II, AP English Literature, AP English Language,
Accelerated 7th-9th grade Science, Honors Physical
Science, Honors Anatomy and Physiology, Honors Biology
I, Honors Chemistry I & II, Honors Forensic Chemistry I
& II, 7th & 8th grade Accelerated Math, 9th grade
Geometry, Pre AP Geometry, Pre AP Algebra II, Pre AP &
AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Statistics, Spanish III and
French III. This list changes as classed are added
or dropped. Current lists are available through the
HS counselors.
